How is my course classified?
Laboratory or Workshop Based: This includes most courses offered in computing, engineering (with the exception of civil engineering/built environment courses), design, music, publishing, photography & film, sports and life sciences.
Classroom based: If your course does not fall into any of the above classifications, then it will be a standard taught course.
Tuition Fee assessments
All students attending University in the UK should pay tuition fees before the start of each year of their course. Students are assessed as either "home" or "overseas" for the purpose of assessing how much they pay. There is a considerable difference between the "home" and the "overseas" rate, so it is very important that every assessment is right.
EU Students:
It is normal practice that students who are assessed as "home" can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland who will pay their fees directly to University at the start of the academic year. "Home" students are usually all students from Scotland or from the EU/EEA.
Overseas Students:
International students are liable to pay the full cost of their tuition themselves. If you are assessed as an "overseas" student it is extremely important to make sure that you have sufficient funds to pay your tuition fees for each year that you will study.
Tuition Fee policy
The University have a very strict tuition fees policy which states that you will be asked to leave your course and return to your home country if you are unable to pay your tuition costs.
Students can either arrange to pay their fees in full at the start of their course, set up a recurring card payment or by direct debit in monthly instalments which will spread payments over the period relevant to the academic session. To pay by Direct Debit, students must have a bank or building society account in the UK.
Deposits & Discounts
It is policy for the University to request a £3,000 deposit from each international student paying over £6,500.You will be required to pay this in order to receive your Certificate of Acceptance for Studies letter which you need if you are applying for a student visa.
